Dr. Tobolski Presents on Certification at SEAOSD
Dr. Matt Tobolski provided a presentation on the history, development and current requirements relating to special seismic certification of nonstructural components. This presentation walked attendees through nuclear requirements, development of IBC requirements and OSHPD’s enforcement of the nationwide requirements. A discussion of the requirements presented in CAN 1708A.5 was provided.
Significant emphasis was given to what is required to be done in accordance with the code, including the explicit requirements for shake table testing. Additionally, Dr. Tobolski provided those in attendance with an important discussion on the division of responsibilities in seismic certifications and touched on vital liability concerns.
